Using Low Point Data in Golf
Available for Mevo+ Pro Package and X3 users
What is Low Point?
The low point in a golf swing refers to the horizontal distance from the location of ball strike, to the point where the club trajectory bottoms out (lowest point in the arc).
How Low Point is Measured
FlightScope utilizes patented Fusion Tracking technology – a unique combination of radar and camera – to track the clubhead's position throughout the swing. By analyzing the vertical movement data, it identifies the lowest position reached by the clubhead and displays it as the low point.
Why Low Point is Important
While not directly impacting ball flight like other data points, the low point can offer insights into swing depth and potential impact dynamics.
-
Swing Depth: A deeper low point (closer to the ground) can indicate a fuller swing with potentially greater power potential. However, an excessively deep low point might lead to hitting the ground before the ball, impacting consistency and potentially causing unwanted outcomes like fat shots.
-
Impact Dynamics: The relationship between low point and ball position can influence impact dynamics. Ideally, the low point should be slightly ahead of the ball at impact for optimal power transfer and trajectory control. A low point significantly behind the ball could lead to steeper angles of attack and potentially lower launch angles and spin rates.
How to use it for improvement
-
Assess Swing Depth: Analyze low point data to understand swing depth and identify potential issues like an excessively deep low point that might lead to fat shots.
-
Evaluate Impact Dynamics: Analyze low point in conjunction with ball position and other data points like Angle of Attack to assess impact dynamics and identify potential issues that could affect power transfer, trajectory, and consistency.
Key Takeaway
While not directly impacting ball flight, low point offers valuable insights into swing depth and potential impact dynamics. By analyzing it alongside other data points, golfers can gain valuable knowledge for swing improvement and achieve greater control over their shots and maximize power potential.
